Travelanthropy (travel + philanthropy) is combining your travels with philanthropic work. This could mean donating your time by volunteering overseas and/or by raising money for a cause or organization through various fundraising efforts.
When people think of philanthropy or a philanthropist, they often assume it is charitable work only done by the wealthy. Philanthropists are known to donate generous amounts of money to various charities, lend their time, skills, talents and their name as a platform to bring awareness to global issues and active human welfare.
So do you need to be wealthy to be a travelanthropist? Absolutely not. I created this website to bring more awareness to the term and shed more light on this type of travel to show that you too can be a travelling philanthropist. You do not have to be wealthy to travel the world nor do you need to be wealthy to speak your mind about issues you feel strongly about. You can help raise money through various fundraising platforms, and social media. You can also donate your time, apply your talents, skill sets and experience by making a difference through volunteer work abroad.
My hope is to encourage you to give back through your travels and make travelanthropy (travelling to make a difference) a social norm. A little compassion and kindness go along way, no matter where you are in the world!
